Hints Without Spoilers

Three hint levels let the host help a little at a time. Keep the hint PDF separate from the ordinary player sheets.

Use the three-step ladder

Level 1 points to the kind of clue. Level 2 reminds the group of a specific rule. Level 3 moves close to the solution process. After each hint, give the children time to try another step. Hints are help, not a penalty.

  • ASK: “Would you like a small hint?”
  • LEVEL 1: point to the target or starting square
  • WAIT: allow another attempt
  • LEVEL 2: restate the relevant rule
  • LEVEL 3: explain the next useful step
  • ANSWER: available only in the host solution guide

Example: Rocket Radio

First remind the group that the same symbol always means the same letter. Next ask them to write one letter under every symbol. Finally ask them to read the letters left to right and use the printed word-to-number table. The adult answer guide gives the final digit.

For independent web play

The player page reveals one level at a time. A child can read the shown hints again, pause the timer and retry. On paper, the host reads the corresponding card. Do not place all three hint sheets among the player clues at the beginning.
